The story of Hotel De Buhari began in Colombo in 1922 even before Sri Lanka gained independence. Our founder, Mr. A. M. Buhari, opened our doors with a simple vision, to blend deep-rooted culinary traditions with warm, refined hospitality. It was here in the heart of the city that our kitchen first came to life, creating a dining experience that would capture the hearts of generations.
Our signature Biryani became the hallmark of this journey. Perfected through years of dedication and a precise blend of more than 200 spices, it quickly became a local sensation that eventually earned international acclaim. Our kitchen also became a place of true culinary innovation, it was during this very journey in 1965 that we created and introduced the world-famous Chicken 65.
Did you know? The iconic Chicken 65 was born right here in our kitchens in 1965 before traveling across the globe.
While our roots run deep in tradition, our kitchen continues to evolve for today’s food lovers. Today, Hotel De Buhari balances that rich heritage with a vibrant, expanded menu designed to satisfy every craving.
While our legendary classic Biryani remains the crown jewel, we have expanded our selection to offer a variety of specialized Biryanis, ensuring there is a perfect plate for everyone. To complement your meal, we’ve introduced a brand-new fresh juice bar, serving refreshing blends made to order. And no visit to Buhari today is complete without a taste of our deliciously famous Watalappan, the ultimate rich, spiced local dessert that brings your dining experience to a perfect close.
Generation after generation, Colombo has gathered around our tables to celebrate life’s milestones over a plate of legendary Biryani. The faces may change, but the magic of Buhari remains exactly the same.
We welcome you to enjoy our classic favorites alongside exciting new tastes.
